Below are descriptions of the committee chair roles at STMS PTO. Committee chairs must be paid PTO members and music be cleared through our district (click here for more information). Time commitment for these roles varies, should you have any questions, please contact president@stmspto.org. Many of these committees have been established and the new chair can pick up where the old chair left off, or they have the ability to make it their own and bring a new approach. All of these chairs have the full support of our board and are able to request additional volunteers/teams to support each program. We appreciate you volunteering for these roles!
Art/Academic - This is a new committee. We are interested in a group of parents that will help us find ways to explore showcasing our students outside of the classroom in different areas. We'd like to explore potential opportunities in Writing, History, Science, Art, and Music.
Audit Committee - This committee is made up of 2 non-officers of the PTO that will conduct an audit of our books one per year at the end of the year.
Book Fair - This committee is responsible for organizing 1 or 2 book fairs each year, one in the Fall and possibly one in the Spring, depending on scheduling. They will work with the president and the treasurer to determine how Scholastic Dollars should be spent. In addition, they will work with the Treasurer to establish a budget for the upcoming school year. They will coordinate with Scholastic books and STMS on dates and times. This committee will also be in charge of acquiring volunteers for their events and promoting through school email, STMS PTO website, and social media.
Dance Committee - This committee will partner with the ASB to organize 2 dances for each school year - one Fall, one Spring. This will include creating themes, decorating, ticket sales, arranging concessions, volunteer sign up, and promotion of the events.
Nominating Committee - This committee will consist of three PTO members, and not more than one of those may be an executive board member. This group will help recruit and build a slate of board members for the following year. Officers must be presented by the nominating committee no later than 30 days prior to the May general meeting. This committee is typically nominated in February and presents in May.
Staff Appreciation - This committee works within an annual budget to provide monthly acknowledgement of our STMS staff. Being on this committee could involve help with setting up or cleaning up the day of an event, organizing drop offs of donated items, making and publicizing sign ups for parents, offering creative ideas, etc.
Treat Committee - This committee will be responsible for organizing the selling of ice cream treats during lunches regularly (typically every other week). They will be in charge of keeping ice cream stocked, managing volunteer sign ups, and promoting Treat Days on social media.
